HOW DO HIGH AND LOW PRESSURES WORK? for ESO 3rd

In Unit 1 we are learning about weather, climate and types of world's landscapes. As you know above us there are always High or Low Pressures (depending if more or less than 1013 mb). High pressures move in a clockwise direction (sentido de las agujas del reloj) in the Northern Hemisphere. Low pressures move in an anticlockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere. So, in Spain for example, low pressures bring wet and cool air and high pressures dry and hot air.

Previsión del Tiempo del 8 de Enero de 2010 con situación de frío y borrasca sobre España. Solo dos días después nevaba a solo 5 kilómetros de Sevilla capital.





THE ARAL SEA TRAGEDY

As I explained in class, the Aral Sea, the 4th largest inland sea in the World is soffering a tragedy since 20 years. Its surface has decreased almost the 80 per cent in the last 20 years because of overxploitaition of water supply and pollution.

Below, there are two link:  in both of them you can see the transformations through satellite pictures of the Aral Sea, from 2000 to 2011. Those picture were taken by the NASA and are very interesting.

CONTINENTS for 1st ESO

En 1º de Eso A y B  en estas dos semanas anteriores a la Navidad hemos estado estudiando los continentes; el relieve, los principales ríos y lagos, montañas, desiertos, etc. Aquí los tienes en inglés, si pinchas puedes también aprender a pronunciar todos los elementos del relieve.

Además tienes los enlaces para trabajar con los mapas y estudiar para el examen que será tras la vuelta de las vacaciones.

Recuerda! Como tarea tienes que dejar tu comentario explicando que parte del relieve (montaña, río, valle, costa, desierto...) del mundo te gustaría visitar y por qué. No olvides poner tu nombre al principio del Comentario.

THE ANCIENT OLYMPIC GAMES for 1st ESO

Durante el tercer trimestre vamos a estar trabajando las dos grandes civilizaciones de la Antigüedad que han marcado el devenir de nuestra cultura, religión, idioma y costumbres. Se trata de las civilizaciones griega y romana.

Uno de los aspectos más interesantes de la civilización griega son los Juegos Olímpicos, que aunque bastante cambiados han llegado a nuestros días y cada cuatro años se siguen celebrando.

In our class we read a text about the origins of the Ancient Olympic Games. They were born in Olympia, and there are many legends around its begginings.The Ancient Olympic Games were so different to ours, because only Greek men could participate. As you know there were several events such as wrestling, boxing, chariot racing, javelin, discus, etc.

In 2004, some weeks before the Olympic Games in Athens Televisión Española made a series in which the Ancient Olympic Games were reconstructed. Have a look at these videos on Youtube and you will see what the Ancient Olympic Games were like.
